This is the coolest corpse/refuse disposal system I’ve built yet. A couple stockpiles collect the garbage, and the mine cart pulls from those. When it’s full, a citizen pushes it down the track to be dumped in a nearby lava lake!

Cool! Minecart+magma refuse is the way to go. here’s my setup:
the magma is a few z levels down to prevent splashing injuries.
I know it’s not automated, but I always just use an atom smasher. It’s really ready to set up.
Creative. I don’t think I’ve ever messed with lava in DF despite years of playing on and off.
