    By the Saffir Simpson scale, the Cat 5 threshold is 157 mph sustained winds, and the proposed Cat 6 threshold was originally 180 mph, and more lately 192 to 195 mph sustained winds.

    Of course, this focuses on wind speed intensity, when more often the more damaging (to people and property) element is storm surge.

    … Which is currently estimated to be up to 15 feet near the center of the hurricane when it makes landfall as likely a Cat 3.

    EDIT: I am now seeing some meteorologists say it may make landfall as a Cat 4.

      Everyone’s focused on their own safety, which is probably understandable in a situation like this. Lots of coverage of the situation in Mexico in Mexican media.

      The most powerful winds were well off the coast in Mexico, still i think the surge was 4-6 feet.

    Does anyone have coverage of the people in the Yucatan? I am legit curious and worried for the Mexicans living there. Fuck Florida.
