I’ve definitely turned into the paranoid nutcase within my friend group in recent years, I hate that everything is “smart” nowadays requiring an app/internet connection & account, just to do basic things that didn’t require any of that before.

What’s some things currently making you ramble like an old man?

I agree with you, but most tech support (tier 1‚ anyway) is just following a set of prompts anyway, so it’s barely better. At least with the recording I can abuse it without feeling bad.

I had a problem with Verizon service, and the troubleshooting app (not audio prompts, just answering questions in the app) actually solved it in about 5 minutes, and introverted me didn’t have to do a phone call or chat. So the experience can be good, sometimes.

Even 5 years ago yes, there was a plan to follow, but the person you were talking to was a techy person who you could speak to and they could skip steps. Or even just check through quickly. That just doesn’t exist any more. Even if you don’t get the computer you get some untrained teenager who is reading the prompts.
