I’m looking for a clean version of Ableton Live (ideally 11, but anything older is fine too) for weeks now. But everything I download and send to VirusTotal.com is infected with all kinds of nasty malware.

Am I doing something wrong? Where does one get cracked audio software (for Windows) without malware?

Rutracker should have clean copies, audionews definitely does. Thing to look for is a signed installer a patched exe and a r2r keygen, if theres anything else in there or the ableton installer comes up as unsigned then its probably unsafe. Most of the time the keygen will come up as a PUP just like any other crack.

Could also try bobdules crack which is a direct download on his site and checks all those boxes (its just a keygen, patcher and link to the official ableton download page), haven’t tested it myself but it seems like his releases are pretty trusted.

Should add, rutracker is public but you need an account, that’s your best bet if you want it quick and don’t wanna have to ask around for an invite

If you don’t mind a copy of their “Lite” version that often ships with audio hardware, you can google a method to generate a valid license key for that version that doesn’t require buying anything. ;)

The quick response is you can’t, you are running an executable someone else had to modify.

The long answer is trust, find a bigger warez group like fitgirl, codex etc. Though I am afraid not many of them focus on software other then games. If these groups malw’d their cracks it would destroy their reputation.

For searching, obviously older, dedicated private trackers are often better and in a way safer, though I don’t know any specific to programs, like Ableton or others.

Theres plenty groups of similar size and good rep in the audio scene too, r2r is the group thats supplying keygens and patches for newer ableton versions, thing is public trackers sometimes have modified version, once it leaves the scene who knows what gets bundled with it

No clue, but you only gotta run it once so if you’re concerned you could run it get the .auz and then go back to a previous restore point, could also throw it in virustotal and check the behavior tab to check that ur copy isn’t dropping weird files in places it shouldnt or anything like that before running on your system

Think most the time people replace the patch exe or the installer with malicious version since that’s low hanging fruit, wouldn’t be too worried over the keygen tbh

I now use Waveform from Tracktion. Not open source, but all must have features are free. And supports linux, mac, and Windows.

However, if you’re used to Ableton Live, you’re probably better off using that. Good luck on your adventure pirate!
