I poked around a while and couldn’t find anything, I see memes from y’all all the time and the progressive nature of Star Trek has got me. I wanna watch it.

Where do I begin?

The Original Series (TOS) is progressive for the 60s. It’s still suuuuuuper sexist and every once in a while they’ll hint that all humans believe in God and God is real. It’s campy and dated. But it is the true beginning. If you are a completionist, start here. Or if you want to skip it, start with the movies so you get to see at least a few adventures with the original crew. Either way I suggest watching everything in the order in which it aired. You can get really nitty gritty and do it on a per episode basis during DS9s overlap with TNG and VOY. This helps for that period:

Or watch Strange New Worlds, a great modern series riffing on the old formulas. If you like it, go back and start with the earlier stuff.

Sorry for butting in but my pet peeve is when people misuse “campy”. “Camp” refers to a style that is intentionally melodramatic and “cheesy”, TOS is just old-fashioned in a way many find amusing, but it’s not camp.

You’re totally right, thanks. It’s so charming and over the top and a great model of what we see in modern camp it’s hard to remember it was just how some TV was in the 60s. Batman and Star Trek are gifts that keep on giving.
