So I’ve got several Wiz and a couple TP-Link Kasa bulbs that have very good color representation. The output looks like what I select in Home Assistant, and maintains that color when dimmed.
I’d like to move to lights that don’t need any cloud, ideally all ESPHome flashed. However, every bulb I’ve got that is flashable with ESPHome has terrible color, mostly a problem with excessively bright blue. I’ve attempted to color-correct with the yaml by limiting the blue channel power output, but it has to be set to a max of like 30%, doing that usually breaks the color at anything lower than about% brightness.
Selecting pure white 255,255,255) looks blue. Selecting a “true” purple (128,0,128) just looks like a slightly red blue. It makes selecting warm, orange colors nearly impossible, it’s always either pink or greenish.
The gamma correction options don’t really seem to help with this either, but I might just have no idea how those work.
Edit: Was hoping to stick to Wifi, cause I know Wifi, initial comments point at Zigbee, which is probably worth looking at.
Have you tried the IKEA? I can’t comment on the colour accuracy, but they are non cloud, you just need a ZigBee gateway somewhere (like a Conbee II)
I gotta second ikea. Though frankly, every brand will be slightly different in the color balance. If you want matching, you gotta stick to one brand it seems…
They were ridiculously easy to implement the first time I tried. Went back and got a few more after the experience. Generally I use switches to control lights, but I have a couple places I like the individual bulbs.
I hawe a GLEDOPTO zigbee bulb, the colures locks good to me.
