why would you want to join another piece of shit social network that jack started only to increase engagement by allowing nazis, and every other stripe of fascist right wingnut almost complete autonomy, so he can once again sell it and/or your data to the highest bidder, after he gets bored again. believe the fuckfaces when they show you who they are the first time.
Also, this is the same guy claiming Elon Musk was the right one to run Twitter. Ooook. This is why I’m all in on the fediverse- if we continue to just invest in monolith social networks we’ll continue to give undue power to rich fucks, no matter how good the intentions are at the start. If they can monetize it, they will.
Agreed!
To put a more pro (as opposed to anti) spin on this:
The web was originally open and free. We achieved some incredible things with the web2.0 model that was predicated on centralization and monetization, but we had to sacrifice some of those original values in the process.
We’re now at a point where we’re capable of re-decentralizing the web and maintaining much of web2.0s incredible functionality without the sacrifices to privacy, agency, and distribution of wealth.
Let’s be excited about leaning into that opportunity!

None of this is relevant to the OPs question at all.
He wasn’t asking for your personal feelings towards the site itself, or the founder. He wants to know how to join it. Your post comes off as very condescending, and snobby.
good, then you precisely understood the tone and content of what i was attempting to communicate perfectly
Feel free to have any tone you’d like. Just know that what you’re adding isn’t helpful or on-topic.
The only reason I can think of is to generate hype and false scarcity
Worked for gmail back in the day
Didn’t work for clubhouse
I signed up months ago and got in invite before they closed again and I’m a normal person. Based on what I’m experiencing so far, they are still in beta and are keeping a finger on the number of users due to performance instability when a bunch of users sign up.
I on the other hand am also a normal person who is still on the waitlist with no invite in sight.
It has to scale up, so they add users slowly. I don’t know how to get an invite really. Occasionally someone I follow will give away an invite but I haven’t been lucky yet.
This is the actual answer. What’s happening here with Lemmy is not how you typically prepare something this big for primetime.
One invite get dropped into your account every two weeks. Find someone using it that has a spare invite code and a couple weeks later you can start inviting people slowly too.
Personally I put myself on the waitlist when I first heard about it way back when but still haven’t gotten one yet. But instead I’m not interested now that I’ve figured out Mastadon and lemmy, where I get the twatter and reddnot experience while also being able to federate between the two.
