Some weird, German communist, hello. He/him pronouns and all that. Obsessed with philosophy and history, secondarily obsessed with video games as a cultural medium. Also somewhat able to program.
The one shown is from join-lemmy:

Also of interest for people that love statistics (which I do):

EDIT: As you can see, the Fediverse being what it is, it’s basically impossible to get an exact, definitive count, so the numbers will always be a bit fuzzy. But they clearly show trends
Oh no! He’s going to build up the imperial navy!
(To anyone not speaking German, it’s been a meme for over a century now, that in 1902, a tax on sparkling wine was levied, explicitly to build up the German Imperial Navy, and it is still a tax to this very day)
Thank you! Seems to be working now!
I was pretty sure I had already tried that, but I probably had something else not configured directly when I did, so I probably hadn’t tried it yet with the proper combination of values in addition to that! (I am glad I haven’t managed to break it somewhere else while trying stuff)
No, you are thinking of hot cock water.
Cock water, meanwhile, is a variant of gamer girl bathwater.
It does sound a bit like the really cringey words you hear in German dirty talk, like “Ficksahne” - “fuck cream”.
“essence fluid”
I guess the Daoist alchemy history is visible there
Now, as much as I genuinely respect what their scientists have achieved with DeepSeek, especially with limited resources and import restrictions on hardware, and how it is Open Source and all - this will most likely end up enshittifying 90% of what it touches, still, just as “AI” like that does anywhere. “Good” to see those dynamics are the same on both sides of the Pacific (and Atlantic, actually), including overvalued stocks from hype.
Also, is archive.ph down? I tried .ph and .is and both timed out for me, when I tried to generate an easy-to-share link to the article.
Yeah, his videos and articles are usually insightful - but his thumbnails are often weirdly bad. In this case, I wonder if he thought the original article and his own stance towards it were somehow mor commonly known with people, or if it was an unfortunate attempt at clickbait.
Oof, I know many people will have an intuitive reaction of “how can you be so stupid” - but even without seeing issues, I can imagine myself on a bad day with ADHD active to mistake packaging like that, not noticing until it’s too late. Add to that, that eye drops are of course often used because of sight issues, and mistaking it gets even easier. The packaging really should change with some regulations that make it harder to mix up.
Another reason why it is so great, that the US currently has the ability to create sane and helpful regulations, with institutions funded to design them and make sure they are followed, right? /s
As far as I know, it is possible on piefed since a recent update - you may want to check it out!
https://join.piefed.social/try/
If you want to get a gist of what it looks like, https://lemmy.world/u/mesamunefire maintains one for PeerTube and other Fediverse videos:
Ha, I knew setting up my own server would attract more people!!! /s
But it is a great development, happy to see it 😀
Also only meaningful if they can’t buy up actual, tangible assets in the coming recessions, effectively converting their dead capital into more assets. (+ getting more state money for being “too big to fail”)
If you don’t have any money, maybe you can also help if you have a bit of extra space on your HDD - by mirroring some things (especially in the torrent form and seeding), it will at least be one more redundancy of some things in the worst case.
EDIT: Turns out, there is a [or at least one] tool for it:

I understand concerns about fragmentation, but recently, I have been more and more in favour of “why not both” as an approach. Basically: One de-facto “central” community, and many local communities. Main reason being, that this will help the Fediverse grow without losing it’s “soul” so to speak. Where - hopefully eventually - there will be those central communities with a reddit-like experience for the topic, and then also local ones, where smaller communities around the topic, without the traps of large, “mainstream” communites, can form.

The investments are being placed through opaque structures known as special-purpose vehicles, which have the benefit of concealing the investors’ identities, to avoid the ire of US authorities and companies wary of Chinese capital during a nadir in relations between the two countries.
Asset managers behind the deals have told investors that the entities are specifically designed to avoid disclosure. The use of special-purpose vehicles in financing is commonplace and there is nothing illegal about the arrangements.
Still, it raises concerns about the potential for undue influence and conflicts of interest at a time when Musk has unprecedented involvement in US policy, politics and business.
Funnily enough, to me personally, there are more questions about what this means concerning Chinese politics and conflicts of interests in the future. The country is not without its own tensions, after all.
The inflow of Chinese capital into Musk’s business empire is primarily profit-driven and has little to do with technology transfer or influencing public policy, according to people involved in the transactions.
With a sluggish domestic economy, wealthy Chinese are looking abroad for investment opportunities.
To me, personally, it serves as a reminder that no amount of red flags waved or social-democratic laws saying “wealth is going to serve the interests of the working class” makes a country communist, only material realities can.
Sadly, as I’m not from the US, it would not really help me (in fact, make it harder). Funnily enough, Iceland was actually occupied by the US during World War II - which they did pre-emptively, worrying the Nazis may pull off another stunt like with Norway and endanger shipping from there if they don’t.
God damn, if I had the money, I’d escape to Iceland. Has been a dream for a long time now, but it just gets more and more desirable.
It’s a simple choice, really, considering how many hours I managed to invest as a kid:
Literally viewing the world like a EU4 map painting player would
I can’t be certain in this case, but the usual suspects are not being connected to as many servers (e.g. not scraping some because of robots.txt settings), delays in scraping the stats, or excluding some servers consciously because their stats are deemed a bit suspicious.
