Yes! I struggle to motivate myself to stick with hobbies. I love photography, making art, writing - but often the motivation is just lacking. But cooking? I’m biologically motivated to cook (most days) so it’s easy to keep up with. All I have to do is save recipes and plan ahead just a little
Is there a community for this?
Are you me? Pretty much the same story. Still a lot of nostalgia for that movie.
As I understand it a lot of Godzilla fans mainly hate it because it diverges so much from traditional Godzilla. Which I get but what a lame reason to hate a movie
That scene at Medieval Times when Carrey does that great rendition of the fight music from Star Trek.
It’s always been interesting to me how relevant movies from the 90s and early 2000s make Star Trek seem at that time. Cable Guy and Wayne’s World both come to mind as movies that make multiple, occasionally obscure Trek references. I was born in 96 and watch a fair amount of Trek but it just doesn’t feel as relevant in my generation :/
I always look at it as:
Critics judge craftsmanship. Audiences judge enjoyment.
You would think that wouldn’t you, Margot Robbie?
There wasn’t enough time spent on character backstory! Use your glowing rectangle.
I agree that backstory is non-essential, but are critics criticizing the lack of backstory or the lack of fully fleshed out characters? Because imo one of the reasons the first Suicide Squad was bad was because it didn’t have adequately fleshed out characters. Any movie that relies on outside material to fill in essential blanks is not doing one of the major things a movie is supposed to do: tell a full story with its characters. Or at least it’s not doing it well
Definitely never realized those were rated badly, huh
I feel like it has to be due to people not liking the religion twist and Mila Kunis, right? I feel like it was easily 60% or up
Idk if I’d go that far by Crystal Skull was definitely the answer I was thinking of. Had a few parts that really strained the audience, sure, but overall a descent film imo
Yeah look at how every single conversation about supporting small businesses went on reddit. Users would rage day and night about the ills of megacorporations. But if you got them talking about supporting small business they’d come out of the woodwork to tell you they’re not paying a higher price. And with things being as tight as they are right now, that’s a logical conclusion. But it just goes to show that even if you sit someone down and explain to them that X thing they say they support absolutely cannot compete with the price of Y thing they say they hate - they will still side with their pocketbook 9/10 times
I don’t think you realize how incredibly short 10 years is in terms of investment recuperation. That’s not realistic unless you’re talking about abandoning capitalism all together, at which point the particulars of IP law are irrelevant
Individuals and small companies would never be able to compete with the resources of someone like Amazon
I don’t have an answer to your actual question other than self-hosting. But, I doubt you’d ever get a “firehose of trash” on your main feed. Mainly because the trashy instances aren’t that populous, so I doubt their posts would be active or hot enough to float to the top. But I could be wrong.
You could always go directly to the instance you want to read and lurk. Unless you make an account you won’t be able to comment, but you’ll be able to get your firehose of trash
Edit: Just be mindful of how much you consume, you’d be surprised how easily hate can invade your mind. To this day I still have to self-censor every now and then thanks to the hateful rhetoric I grew up around, even though I’m long past it
Then we just need to put ice cubes in the ocean. Plus that would help us cool the earth down
What’s also fun is the few times I’ve been back to reddit to look at something. Each time I ended up seeing people in the comments with just terrible attitudes. And I thought to myself, “I’m weirdly glad reddit is still around because it gives people like you a place to congregate that I can avoid.”
You lost a remnant of someone you cared about, so it makes sense even though it was bad for you in the long run
If you’re going to break it down that far, why stop? Your “self” is not your central nervous system, but a portion of it - and not a very large one. It’s your consciousness. Most of what your nervous system does is not conscious.
Your self (and mine) are but a small portion of a single organ in a large network of organs and tissues and cells and bacteria. We developed because it was advantageous for our bodies - which predate our consciousness - to have pilots. We are periphery. We are a single part of an ecosystem. And definitely not the center of it
