  • Biden is an average to above average president.

It’s mostly republican lawmakers passing shitty laws in republican states that makes live for many American worse. DeSantis is the one fucking up Florida. Gregg Abott and Ted Cruz are fucking up Texas. Biden has very little influence on that.

And Biden is fighting the terrible decisions from the previous Trump administration. Were many shitty things are only now starting to show their full efect. Like the increase in higher income tax for lower brackets. Or deregulating coal mining operations that were in place to protect rivers, or defunding the women’s health budget. Most of these things take time for the average person to feel the impact. And Biden is actively trying to reverse some of them. He recently signed a new bill that gurantees funding for women’s health research. Biden rejoined the Paris agreement (which Trump left), with the goal of reducing emissions and combating climate change. And a lot more. But just as with the negative efects taking time to be felt, so does reversing them.

Biden for some reason just isn’t liked by many Americans. It has little to do with his policies or (in)actions as a president. People like to bring up the geonicde for why they don’t like him. But many of the same people have been critizing him before the situation in Israel even started.

  • It’s not a legitimate competition, that’s the entirely point. The claim is AI models rely on stealing content and changing it slightly or not all. And if a “regular” journalist does this, they would get into trouble. Just because the entity switches to an AI company doesn’t make this business model legitimate.

A few years ago there was a big plagiarism scandal on IGN because one of their “journalists” mostly took reviews of other people, changed a few words, and published it. Obviously that’s not fine.

  • The best advice here is to just not buy new. You can get a refurbished laptop from trusted sellers that will definitely exceed the requirements for under $200. If you are willing to spend up to $300 then there is literally no concerns.

For example here is a DELL Latitude 7490 Laptop Intel Core i5 8th Gen 8250U (1.60GHz) 16GB Memory 256 GB SSD Intel UHD Graphics 620 14.0" Windows 10 Pro for $192 on Newegg.

    https://www.newegg.com/dell-latitude-7490-work-business/p/N82E16834833592?item=N82E16834833592

If you don’t like Newegg there are tons of other stores that offer refurbished laptops. I assume you are in the USA and stores you can consider are Target, Walmart, Best buy.

There is very little risk with refurbished laptops. They are usually tested before being shipped out and if you buy from a legit company they usually offer some kind of store warranty. Walmart for example offers a 90 day return policy for any reason.

It’s hard to make suggestions on which laptop to get since availability plays a bigger role here. So just look around at your desired budget and pick what you think your kid needs.

If you think your kid won’t accept a laptop that has a scratch, simply look for “As New”. Then there usually aren’t any visible damages. But if you are fine with some cosmetic damage you can get real bargains.

  • I am sorry but this just sounds like today’s society with nothing new added to it. You just said there won’t be any middleman anymore. And just magiced away a lot of issues, which often are solved by the middleman.

The doctor’s club would still need people to run the club. There needs to be someone your farmers can approach to find an available doctor. They can’t just shout it into the wind.

Your farmers won’t have the logistics to bring their food to the people. They won’t know how much to bring where. They won’t have the equipment to do so. And if you solve all of these issues they won’t have enough time to farm anymore.

Universal healthcare isn’t a new concept and doesn’t require people to buy exclusive access.

And you still talk about compensation but based on your explaining money would be useless. Everyone has free access to these shared specialists.

  • Faking your death should have a really dire reason for it. Just disappearing is much easier and safer. But I suppose the steps aren’t that different.

Find a country with relaxed visa requirements. Anything where you can get married easily and obtain permanent residency will work. Solo travel to a nearby country. Find some kind of remote tourist attraction where getting lost seems plausible. Tell your friends or family you will go there. But instead of actually going there you take a land route to your final destination. Once you entered the country find someone to get married to to get permanent residency and working rights. Take their name. This step sounds harder than it is, plenty of people are willing to marry someone they just met. Don’t forget you are only doing this for the visa not to actually have a fulfilled family life. So you don’t have to love or even like them,

You are now in a country no one even thinks about looking for you with a new name. It wouldn’t work if you are running from certain government agencies that are acively searching for you but for most other cases this should be easy enough.

You can take this step even further. For example Argentina offers you a second nationality/passport as soon as you have a Argentinian spouse. So you could repeat the steps with your new Argentinian name/passport. I am sure you will find some Argentinian willing to marry you and then let you disappear for a couple of thousands USD.

  • That kind of punishment is used all the time in the USA. It’s criminal and/or civil forfeiture depending on the circumstances. But just as in the case in China it’s mostly applied on people who can’t fight back. Big mega corporation are mostly safe from it. But occasionally it hits rich people.

Civil forfeiture is even heavily abused in the USA because the police department gets to keep the seized money and the burden of proof is shifted. The person who’s assets have been seized needs to provide proof of their innocence.

  • I am not really sure what you mean with their settlement. If you just mean the existence of Israel, then yes it’s fine to support that. If you are talking about their actual settlement policies, then no. I don’t think supporting a system of displacing people you deem “inferior” or “unwanted” to make room for “superior” people should be supported.

How to feel about the military response to the attacks is purely a personal choice. A fight against terrorists is never clean. And whether or not the amount of “collateral damages” is acceptable is up to you. I personally think that the attack by Hamas were extreme enough to warrent the response by the IDF. I don’t think you can expect someone to just turn the other cheek in this scenario. But I totally understand people who say any amount of civilian casualties is too much.

  • Caste is a social hierarchy mainly based on the job your ancestors had.

In India there are 5 major caste categories but in total there are around 25,000 sub castes. Only the “untouchables” might be protected as they are often of different religion or ethnicity.

But the other 4 major castes are of the same race, ethnicity, national origins, color, gender, and religion. There is a tendency of darker skin colors being more prominent in lower castes but it’s not a defining property of caste and you can find people of any complexion in each caste.

But maybe you can tell me which current protected class would differentiate between someone of the Kshatriyas and the the Vaishyas caste.

  • There are no “general” discrimination laws. There are only protected classes. As I said earlier you totally can discriminate against people as long as they don’t fall under a protected class. And caste isn’t covered by the existing protected classes. So even if you can prove discrimination based on caste is happening, it wouldn’t be illegal at a federal level.

Outlawing something doesn’t legitimate something. It just acknowledges that it is happening and requires action. And caste based discrimination is happening. Currently it’s just legal.

  • Caste doesn’t fall under any of these. Because people are clearly willing to hire Hindu people born in India of any gender. So you aren’t discriminating against race, national origins, religion, color, or gender. Since the USA doesn’t acknowledge caste it can’t differentiate between two people of different caste just because of their caste.

The only thing you mentioned that might apply is “Ancestry” but I can’t find a description of it since it isn’t listed under the protected classes list.

Discrimination isn’t inherently illegal. For example, you totally can discriminate against people under the age of 40. Which does happen. Many landlords won’t rent to people under 30 and that’s perfectly legal.

  • Child sexual abuse is more than just rape by an adult. But many people only consider this form of sexual abuse and that’s why they think the number is high.

But child sexual abuse also includes fondling, exhibition, kissing, forced nudity, etc. Basically anything that leads to sexual gratification. And it also includes if these things are done by older children. I think if the age difference is greater than 2 years it’s considered csa even if it was done with “consent” aka it’s assumed the power/authority difference doesn’t allow for consent to exist. Which seems like a fair assessment.

If you take all of that into consideration, the number is totally plausible.

  • The big issue with removing the headphones jack is just that it’s now impossible to use wired headphones while charging the phone.

For a lot of people that doesn’t matter but for some of us that’s a big deal. If they added a second USB-C port that would fix the issue.

But saying the 3.5 jack is legacy technology is also kinda wrong. A USB headset is not inherently better. You have to compare the digital audio converter that’s used. While USB headphones use their own dac, the jack uses the dac of the phone. So a cheap phone with high quality USB headphones will be better but a high quality phone with cheap USB headphones would be worse than using the jack.

Which even means jacks would be more sustainable because you only need one dac per phone rather than one per headphone.

And any form of wireless headphones are just inferior to wired connections.

  • First, scale back your expectations a bit. She is only 4 months old. You said she is crate trained and leash trained, if she also knows some commands like sit and come here you are on a very good pace. Around 4 moths is when you can start with the more advanced commands. Especially having her follow the “come here” command on a longer distance and while outside is going to be your big goal for now.

I would worry more about your beagle fighting over the bones. That’s something that needs fixing more so than your 4 old puppy behaving like a puppy.

From the sounds of it, she spends way too much time in her crate. You said she is there while you are at work and over night. If you work 8 hour shifts that’s 16 hours a day inside the crate. That’s way too long. At her age she isn’t even supposed to be in a crate for more than 4-5 hours straight and 8 hours in total should be the maximum for any dog. So when she gets out she really needs to burn energy. Just walking her isn’t going to be enough with that much time spent in a crate. So get that intensity up.

In the morning before you go to work you have her play fetch so she can run at full speed and tire herself out and in the afternoon after work you take her to a dog agility training course. Even better would be to eliminate one of the crate time and exchange it for time with a dog sitter or dog day care center.

I understand you are currently worried about your dogs due to the parasites and playing fetch with a dog that’s not fully trained yet is also dangerous. So maybe you will have to get active too and start jogging in the morning with them. Depending on your house maybe you can play fetch inside or build them a small obstacle course at home.

At the very least increase the size of the crate. Make it a fenced off part of your house. Just give them more space to play and move while locked up.
