We can have different political views, but we have one view. The one view is we’re the finest, the greatest nation in the world. We should focus on that. And we should focus on dealing with our problems and coming together … and stop the rancor. We have to bring the nation together.
I don’t think any amount of togetherness is going to stop Palestinians from being slaughtered. And “greatest nation in the world”? Come on…
I think just a neutral review stating “The seller abruptly canceled and refunded without explanation” would do the trick. I might even be inclined to leave negative feedback if the seller refused an adequate explanation. I’m not sure though if it’s possible after a refund. I try to seek out sellers who are individuals casually selling personal items vs. someone whose business is selling on eBay, so I’ve never had this happen yet.
Can they at least leave feedback? It would sure be nice to be warned about sellers like these.
Every single comment I’ve ever seen on that site without exception has been astonishingly mindless. It makes Facebook comments look like a lot of geniuses by comparison, and that’s not even getting into the frequent white nationalist content.
Even the comments I’ve seen on presumably more thoughtful channels like Audible Anarchist are colossally moronic.
But like you said there’s a lot of content on YouTube, so it’s possible that I’ve just had the misfortune of never seeing an insightful comment anywhere on YouTube since 2006.
Cops won’t help you or I because we’re not the capitalist class. It’s even worse if you’re a minority. And same with most other people, unfortunately.
I live in small town South Dakota where people like to imagine they’re friendly, but they’re some of the most fucked up people you’ll ever have the displeasure to meet. I have the bad luck genetically to look like “one of the boys,” and so other men have disclosed to me their most unhinged thoughts and opinions, thinking I’ll agree. Don’t let them fool you – they’d absolutely commit murder or worse to get what they want.
I often think the best chance we’ve got is to curate a small group of people and live apart from all this. And what my husband’s been through too when he was a child, it makes me enraged. It’s like he says, humans are the most fucked up animal on the planet, and literally everything on earth would be better with us out of the picture.
I’ve never had a good experience commenting on YouTube. I’ve never once had an intelligent, thoughtful response to one of my comments. Being blocked from commenting on YouTube is a blessing. That’s why I use Piped.
Yep. I recall working all day serving tables, feeling sick, and I could only afford the blister pack of 2 generic benadryl for $3.99 at the gas station until I got some more tips. There were many little things like that that added up.
Maybe the doomers are right and humanity really was a mistake
You may be right, I’m not really sure. And in this case, this is still what people are referring to colloquially.
This is true, but colloquially when people say “I dislike algorithms,” we are referring to any system that automatically sorts or elicits information, apart from responding to user input. I like having the ability to sort and filter things manually, but I dislike unsolicited recommendations and things of that nature. I think most people know the technical meaning of the word.
To each their own, but I’ve been using bookwyrm for a few months now, and I like that it doesn’t use an algorithm because I have yet to receive a suitable recommendation from one. It’s a much cleaner, refreshing experience.
You seem to be a victim of the disease called capitalistus brainrottus. I already said I donate, but I wouldn’t even consider that to be as much a show of gratitude as someone who doesn’t donate as much but contributes more content.
I was a Skyrim mod author and you pearl clutchers were always preaching doom and gloom there too, but fortunately there you failed while those who contributed freely and openly thrived. You who can’t conceive of value beyond mere currency, where everything you do is transactional. I feel sorry for you.
I donate, and I’ll donate again, and as far as I know it is covering costs. I believe the person who runs this instance (Jonah) does so because he wants to, and if he should ever decide to close it, then I think he should, if it stops bringing him joy and fulfillment.
I feel like you are devaluing the fediverse by reducing it to monetary value. Simply put: If we are talking about bringing in corporate sponsors and ads, then speaking for myself, not only would I no longer donate, but I would no longer feel connected in any way to this platform.
There are plenty of other forums that aren’t federated but are sustained by people because they want to, not because of monetary gain.
Just look how monetization has leeched the soul out of things like podcasts and YouTube (I’d say reddit, but reddit was never good to begin with). Do you really want that here? I know I don’t. I’d rather see it end than become another site like that.
Yeah, I know what you’re saying. I just didn’t want anyone who may be looking to get the idea they’re not there.
Pretty sure those are still around, and there are things like Spotube too
I’m absolutely not defending Spotify or any other capitalist entity, but profit by no means constitutes a reason to exist. I know plenty of people who have never turned a profit and in fact accrued debt who are far more valuable than any executive at Spotify.
I just don’t give a shit if Spotify or any major labels exist. I buy records and merch from independent labels run by people that actually have a soul.
Yeah, seems like it. Same with people who brag about only getting a few hours of sleep each night.
Yeah true, but last time I went to the doctor they charged me $200 for just the office visit, so it’s not really sustainable for me
Dear people who tell LGBT+ people that we shouldn’t care what some right-wing nutters think:
This is why we have to care. What they think does affect us, unfortunately.
