There are a million good programs and services out there, why use the ones that are completely shit in every way

I found a two civil cases where people were physically detained after refusing to show their receipt.

But I’m pretty sure that isn’t a civil issue. That’s a whole bunch of crimes, involving the violence committed in the process of detaining you and the kidnapping / imprisonment itself. What happens when you call the cops and say “this person tackled me leaving the store and accused me of theft, here is my receipt”

I mean it’s a cop so you never know, but what’s supposed to happen is that guy gets arrested for the unlawful violence he committed against you, and like definitely 1000% fired at least because every store has a policy against that shit

They can’t. That would be mega illegal. All they can do is ask you to stop and show your receipt, and you can just ignore them and keep walking. Or if you’re feeling extra polite, say “have a nice day” and keep walking.

What happens to me now with Firefox and ublock origin is if i leave a video paused in the background for a long time and then it unloads it and then I click it to continue watching so it loads back up, then it plays an ad. I was legit like because I haven’t seen an ad on the internet in years.

Everything is political. We have comms that we don’t consider political, but you would still consider them political because you would rather they cater to your politics rather than ours. We have !games@hexbear.net for example, but because it’s not a liberal comm you would consider it political.

Hexbear is an aggressively inclusive space full of thoughtful people who are passionate about making the world a better place and educating their fellow man. If every online space were more like hexbear we’d all be much better off

Hexbear has been very active for 3 years before we even federated. There’s plenty of room for growth. We’re not going to become reddit (and that’s a good thing) but acting like it’s just going to die (or is already dead) is just ridiculous

I’ve experienced exactly this situation as well. I didn’t quit, though, I just kept being a nuisance by being the only sensible person until they made up a reason to fire me
