What’s really odd is that I am sub’d to this magazine but I didn’t see this post until I searched for @TheArstaInventor (for an unrelated thing). Getting worried that this magazine is effectively unmoderated, but would be happy to see someone like @TheArstaInventor get added as a third mod here.

They still say that they will retain the IP used for creating the account. Not sure if this is legitimate data redemption after I have asked for my data to be deleted according to GDPR?

Only if they can find some other basis to keep it now that you’ve withdrawn your consent - e.g. some law in an EU member requires them to retain the IP address. Another example - they claim they need it in much the same way that the credit card money needs to know your personal info so they can continue collecting your payments until the debt you own them is paid off.

TBH, I’m hard pressed to understand on what alternative basis they are able to use to retain your IP address. This might be something to refer to your regulator for additional information.

Ideally there would have been a way to merge threads and preserve the comments from both. Too late now I guess, but something to keep in mind next time something like this happens I suppose…

That can be the case, sometimes issues with federation can cause threads to get lost across instances, and a new instance may not get all the existing threads on a pre-existing magazine.

However, it looks like both your account and this magazine are hosted on lemmy.world - since you’re both on the same instance, you should have been able to see the older posts on this magazine. (Note: magazine is the kbin term for lemmy communities - i prefer it as the term community can be ambiguous). I’ve never used lemmy proper so am not sure how that works, but on kbin you can view the older threads on a magazine quite easily.

Recommend giving https://github.com/andrewbanchich/shreddit a try - it supports using the GDPR archive out of the box, no code changes required.

I would try asking on @kbinStyles to see if anyone has a style or a script that can do this.

Ah I think I remember that. It was r/mildlyinteresting iirc - an admin demodded the entire mod team for breaking a rule that they didn’t actually break (they filled the flag but didn’t actually allow any NSFW) and a different admin added them back.

Their admins fight over who does what to whom and apparently they close subs then threaten themselves demanding that they reopen them.

What? Where and when did this happen?

In the meantime, to ensure that r/PICS is adhering to all of Reddit’s guidelines and requests, we would be happy to revert the NSFW setting, restrict posting, and remove any and all content that could be considered “offensive” by anyone.

Hmm. So they are superficially giving in, they won’t keep NSFW on to avoid ads money for reddit. But by going restricted, and going after all “offensive” content (could I read that to mean all John Oliver content? i.e. all content since the protests started) they stand to cause a massive drop in traffic to the sub, which should still hurt the bottom line.

I guess that message worked as the sub reopened. /s
