Im sorry that this happened to you. It sucks to learn that someone isn’t who you thought they are after you trust them.
I’m a network engineer by trade and a Linux enthusiast, and happily apply for the position 😊
I hope that one day there will be a larger community of network engineers on Lemmy, however it seems that most did not make the migration off of that old site.
I think it’s even simpler than that. China/SEA offered better profits for western businesses, who had no problem with squandering their nations wealth on sweat shops in a far away land. Politicians stand idly by while it happens as long as their paychecks arrive on time.
I’m sure the politicians who sold out their people are doing nicely for themselves.
All I take from what you’re saying is that it is easy for you to morally justify murdering someone that you don’t know, much less harmed you.
No one is forcing Singapore to execute those who the rest of the world views at petty criminals.
We’re not talking about drug kingpins here.
Singapore hanging its weight on an antiquated, inhumane justice system while the world evolves towards rehabilitative models is downright disturbing. Death penalties for drug offenses are an archaic, blunt instrument to tackle a complex issue, punishing the vulnerable pawns rather than the kingpins of the trade.
My grandfather had GBS in the 80s. Absolutely terrifying. Unfortunately he lost his ability to walk and was forced into an early retirement.
It’s indescribably scary to watch a loved one’s body destroy itself while you and the doctors alike are wondering if this horrible disease will leave any part of them unscathed.
Things like this should ruin a career and tarnish a name.
