On my desktop computer (debian testing + Sid + experimental; AMD Ryzen; Nvidia GPU RTX 3080), that I use mostly for multimedia (blender) and gaming, I avoid Wayland cause I lose 10%-15% FPS on games (both native ones n using wine/proton/proton_eggroll)… so, for me, yet, Wayland ain’t an option!!!
Pick one that fits your bills! Usually, AMD ones have more VRAM for the same price compared to Nvidia… I use Nvidia here (Asus tuf rtx3080 with 12GB VRAM), but I’d use an AMD one without problems too, if I had one…
Just avoid Intel Arc right now!!!
PS: if you need CUDA, you’ll have to use Nvidia

Yeah, so you’re telling me you don’t want the entire idea suite installed (which can be reduced by installing only the plasma version), but you are ok having 500 different Nvidia drivers, which are at least 350MB each… grats! Continue to use flatpak!!! 😂🤣😂🤣😂😂
Old ass adwaita/libadwaita bug; happens on every distro… I’m really starting to think it is more related to libadwaita itself than to flatpak 😭
Im not a PhD on Arch, but, why are you using Flatpak to install a driver that is available at AUR??? When it comes to drivers, try to stick to your distro ones, unless you really know what you are doing!

Are you running Steam with the option to pre-cache Vulkan shaders, by any chance? It usually eats a lot of CPU when you aren’t playing anything on Steam, for some minutes!!!
I didn’t switch yet for lots of reasons, but I’ll write one! Games; I lose 10%-15% FPS, when gaming on Wayland, compared to using Xorg. My hardware: Ryzen 3950 CPU, 64GB RAM, Nvidia RTX 3080, 12gb VRAM GPU! This happens on each n every game, around 10%-15% FPS loss!!!
1st) quit Ubuntu n use Debian testing, based on your hardware!
I switched from XFCE to Mate; I aways loved crazy & light desktops, like XFCE, Enlightenment, Window Maker! Simple things that DO work!!!
No tips needed; everything will work rock-solid and you’ll never return to Ubuntu

Debian Stable (or testing) with the MATE desktop… I mean, if you wanna use AND learn a little bit of Linux!!! Debian is aways your friend, and it is super rock-solid! Avoid distros with poor documentation, and avoid Ubuntu at all costs… Ubuntu has weird bugs, just like Windows. If you don’t like Debian, I’d say: pick OpenSUSE or ArchLinux…
The distro choice just depends on how much you wanna “learn” about Linux; if you wanna learn a little bit about it, and have a rock-solid distro, with a small RAM usage, I’d recommend Debian stable or testing, with the Mate desktop!
