The concept is wonderful. I do not trust Elon with that concept. I worry that many folks with high hopes of this helping them will just end up used and hurt.

I use Napster. I chose it way back when Spotify paid for the Rogan podcast, from a list of platforms that pay artists more. I’m not sure if that’s true any longer, but look it up! I’ve been really happy with their service. (And it’s really full circle for me, since I used their original service decades ago.)

ETA I can’t vouch for the accuracy of this site, but it says Napster is still one of the top-paying platforms.

So help them vote. Volunteer with efforts to get out the youth vote. Push for universal mail in voting where you are, or at least early voting. Help get politicians and initiatives on the ballot that they actually care about.

Seriously!! I don’t mind the frequency so much as the absolute SHIT they’re serving up. Conspiracy theory after conspiracy theory. I’ve been skipping some of my favorite creators because I just don’t have the emotional wherewithal to deal with the bullshit every five minutes. It is truly enraging.

I also got a Nebula subscription. It’s not perfect, and I wish more of the people I follow were on there, but it helps so much, mentally. I don’t have to see crappy ads I didn’t sign up for, or feel guilty for using an ad blocker, because the people I follow are getting paid through the subscription.

To put a finer point on it: The average car buyer who has $0 down is not buying a $43,000+ car.

Buying old will always be cheaper, I’m not trying to argue against that. But the numbers you listed are going to depend on where you live. Registration will happen every year, whether you buy new or old, but buying an older car will save some money on those registrations. I’m really just trying to say that the same point can be made, but with reasonable and accurate numbers that the average consumer can relate to.

I’m one of the suckers who always tips, but I also worry that those tips aren’t actually getting to the workers. I would much prefer a system that just pays them a living wage!

Why is no one calling bullshit on these numbers? 10%/mo of 100k/yr = $833 a month. That is a HUGE monthly loan repayment. That’s a $43,000 vehicle with nothing as a down payment. You can get a new car for less than half that. (And then on the next round you can trade in or sell your old one for more down payment.) Even if you figure that’s 100k pre-tax, you should still be left with roughly 70-80% of that, which is more than plenty for a basic new car.

I’m not arguing that inflation has been ridiculous, because it absolutely has. The bottom 90% of folks are getting fucked. But let’s use real numbers.
