Proton seems on the wrong side of the usability - privacy spectrum. Every last feature I’d want from an online provider is impossible or massively neutered by the overly strict security.

I wish there was a similar service in a trustworthy country with a more sane level of safety, like opt-in encryption for example.

Is a VPN even worth it for that use case? A seedbox won’t cost that much more, esp. if you factor in electricity costs from keeping your machine running. And getting to 1.0 seed ratio is also much easier.

I loved how that game managed to have an A E S T H E T I C that was absolutely gorgeous AND perfectly matched the games themes. It’s also one of very few games where the open world-edness isn’t just a gimmick, but is integral to the game play. A real detective doesn’t get LEVEL COMPLETE messages or 10/10 CLUES FOUND.

Oh, and finally everyone was hot and the music is an absolute banger.

I want a shooter-esque game crossed with MOBA stuff. Basically, I just want Monday Night Combat, Battleborn or Gigantic to come back.

Nier Automata. I really hated the replaying it part. The combat gets incredibly boring after the first two playthroughs. I also found the supposedly “deep” story to be extremely lacking, very on the nose and, like way too much japanese entertainment, bipolar when it comes to emotions.

And then it turns out some horrendously ugly piece of plastic (like the Kinesis Advantage 360) is better for actually using.

I use Lemmy for the “general” undirected browsing when I’m bored. I also increased the friction by removing Reddit from my bookmarks, and adding Lemmy.

I do still use Reddit for the smaller communities that have no realistic alternative on Lemmy.

The common thread between both is religious extremism.

How is this blasphemy law different from the draconian anti-LGBT or anti-abortion laws in the USA? BOTH ARE JUSTIFIED with purely with religious feelings/opinions.

The intent is secondary to the effect. If certain muslim people cannot put their religious sensibilities BELOW the secular human rights of their fellow country men, they LITERALLY need to leave. They are literally bad for us, and our social, secular order. EXACTLY like the hardcore christians are bad for human rights in the USA.

It’s a law that protects religious books in a way non-religious books aren’t, just because it offends religious people. I don’t understand how that’s not a blasphemy law, Book Edition.

Honestly, Immortals: Fenyx Rising was superior to Breath of the Wild in every way (for me at least). The world wasn’t “stretched” in size needlessly, “shrines” integrated directly into the overworld, instead of being seperate, the collectibles were sometimes fun (compared to Koroks, which were always bad), there were far more interesting characters and side quests, the world was more alive, the combat was better (if we ignore BotWs weird physics stuff, which has fuckall to do with an action RPG), exploration had an actual point, because you might actually find something nice that doesn’t break five swings in, the story was superior, and the humor was great (to me).

TL;DR: Ubisoft cancels a sequel to their best game in some time, no suprise here.

In Germany, a lot of medicine can only be sold in very regulated apothecaries. Those stores are allowed to recommend and sell homeopathy. There’s even a state-exam for homeopath. Though for that you only have to demonstrate you won’t kill your patients, not that you can actually help.

Twitter has all the content. I want the content. Therefore I’m on Twitter until most of the content moves. In addition, I hate how most of the fediverse social media has no algorithm. The algorithm is how I found most of the content I’m interested in in the first place.

I do actually care about the content they “push”. Most fediverse apps are pointless to me exactly because they don’t have an algorithm. Unless you already know EXACTLY everything you’re interested in from the start, finding new stuff is the primary and best feature of the “algorithms”.

Imagine a website where EVERYONE sees the exact same content. You could just calculate that content once, save the result, and give everyone that pre-calculated result. This is called caching (roughly speaking).

Now imagine the other extreme: NOONE sees the same content. That means you have to do your (comparatively) expensive calculations every single time. That requires a lot more compute power, esp. if you want to maintain a decent speed.

Most websites aren’t entirely one or the other, but in general anything customizable will make things just a little less cache-able, and therefore everything a little more compute-intensive. Blocking is one of those customizations.

I agree that not everyone can go 0%, but the vast, vast majority can. Especially if we’re talking about people with access and time to chat on some internet platform, aka everyone reading this.

Not every man can stand up for womens rights either. For example, his sexist boss might constantly make sexist jokes about his coworkers. He needs the job, though. He can’t afford to do the right thing. Do you think, therefore, it’s a good thing to ALWAYS BRING THIS HYPOTHETICAL UP, whenever the topic is that men should stop supporting the patriarchy, feminism is good, etc.? If non-feminists were the ones always bringing up the exceptions, would you believe they actually cared?

So tomorrow all politicians decide to do the right thing. Meat (just as one example) suddenly costs 5 times as much, because environmental and animal welfare regulations (ones with teeth, this time). In what universe do you think the population would accept that???

ANY sustainable policy change absolutely REQUIRES the support of the voting population. And that’s a million times easier in a world with even just 10% vegans. Any collective action is comprised of INDIVIDUALS choosing to participate, and do their part.

Unless you think they could pass mandatory consumption laws, not eating meat would absolutely work. We’re at just 2% vegans, and we’ve got Beyond and a lot of vegan options in soo many places, compared to just 10 years ago. Imagine just 10% vegans.

This would only make sense if morality, or caring for others was somehow genetic AND unalterable. My parents aren’t bad, per se, but most of my moral and philosophical growth came from other people. Be it teachers, random people, philosophers, or Breadtube.
