I mean, the sentiment makes sense, but if the answer is to teach more kids to think critically, we have an uphill battle. Something tells me that republican legislatures are already very aware of this sentiment as evidenced by all of the book banning a we are seeing in states across the country.
Honesty, in these dire circumstances, we need both tools.
Obviously they are the ones who have to deal with the end result. But that is very myopic and unhelpful.
Sigh, “ferment” is what I was going for… not sure what my auto correct was thinking when I fat fingered that. I won’t change it as the responses to it are funny and deserve context.
Honestly this blood is on the hands of places like Fox News and OAN. They cater to and mermen’s mental illness until it manifests like this. And they know it. Fox News was making fun of its viewers off camera. The way that the skillfully manipulate the minds of the vulnerable is nothing short of intentional. If a therapist were to do this they would see jail time for sure. But when the media does it, we all just shrug.
You would think an attorney would have the forethought to recognize how posting online might hurt his case in the future. This lends evidence to my hypothesis that being a republican really is a mental illness.
A corporation is technically a group of people acting as a legal single entity. But in this case I’m using the more layman definition of large monied interests trying to monetize everything and crush creativity in the process. If they buy huge instances… then we make others. Just look at how many people (like me) did their research to try something new when they fell out with Reddit. Switching to a new instance is not that hard.
This right here! The ability to defederate is what makes this community viable. We still have the power in this space to ignore corporations. Something we are losing the ability to do in real life. Corporations live and die by their ability to interact with us. Defederation is one of the strongest tools on the internet now.
I have read a few articles on this. Does anyone know what they mean by “universal”? That brings to mind the thought of the government offering a public option for ISPs, which I just don’t see Biden doing (I would love to be proven wrong).
Or is this money just going to be given to corporate ISPs who will probably find a way to continue to jack up the price for the consumer all while being subsidized on their expansion?
If the later is the case, are we just throwing around the word “universal” now?
