You can block ads on Twitch… I use S0undTV on my firesticks and never see ads.
Why would I bother when you’re obviously just going to pick it apart
No, I’m going to look at the actual reliability and quality of the boards objectively. I’m questioning your opinion, and asking you about it, and you’re getting offended and insecure by basic questioning and fact checking.
The fact is that Pine64 boards have been better than Pi boards since the Pi3 when the Rock64 had a real gigabit port, unlike the Pi3 (even though they lied and said it did)… and could boot from eMMC, unlike the Pi3. I still can’t believe people actually run an OS on sdcards. And it was faster. The separation grew drastically on the launch of the Rockpro64, which launched an entire year prior to the Pi4, could boot from USB right away, could boot from eMMC, had a PCIe slot instead of a stupid hat system so it could take legit SATA cards and NIC cards on it. And it had a faster CPU and was cheaper. And did I say, launched an entire year prior. Let me put that into perspective, because the Pi4 struggled with USB booting for an entire year after launching. So you could have better boot options, better hdd interfacing, better mainline Linux support, and a faster CPU for a full two years before Pi4 even got USB booting and fixed their shitty PSUs.
Be objective. In what way am I wrong? How am I being unfair?
There were reports that many of the original Pine64 Kickstarter boards had this bootloop problem.
If that’s true then they fixed any quality issues on subsequent boards, so you questioning the stability and quality of the current boards is no longer substantiated… but I’m curious what you would consider a more stable option? Surely not anything from the Pi Foundation, as they have had numerous issues with the PSU to USB booting to many others problems as recent with their last major board, the Pi4, which I find unacceptable in my opinion.
The thing lasted 4 months before it stopped booting. I have no faith in any subsequent products.
You shouldn’t weight your opinion so heavily with anecdotal evidence… you should really realize that was just unlucky, and a statistical anomaly.

Strawman. Where did I claim advertising wasn’t previously manipulative? I never made those claims. I’m concerned with the scale and effectiveness provided by these data pools. Don’t equate misleading marketing campaigns with the level of scale and effectiveness this offers. Again, see the Cambridge Analytica scandal for reference. It’s been proven that they can control a large demographic to sway an election. The means and effectiveness have never before been seen, and were made entirely possible by data collection. That’s the reason the data is so valuable, and that’s the reason so many resources are being poured into it. Eventually they will be able to use it to set opinion and control the majority of society.
I think we will eventually see tooling for data-poisoning, and it will become a valid counter-measure for maintaining privacy.
You’re thinking little picture, your data specifically isn’t worth anything. Do you really think these multi-billion dollar companies are investing these crazy resources into data to see your porn history or sell you a different brand of toothpaste?
Your data with everyone else’s data is worth a lot because they can use it to manipulate and control society. The Cambridge Anyltica scandal was a proof of concept… and you are not impervious to it. Some of us don’t want to participate in fueling that machine, but congrats on bringing yourself to not care about it I guess.
It isn’t, you can get SFF PCs for as little as $75 on eBay that have Quicksync CPUs and will run circles around a RPi, especially if you have to do any transcoding. They are also really power efficient… 7-20W idles.

SBCs really should no longer be considered for selfhosting unless you are A) in an extremely power constrained environment like an off-grid RV or vanlife situation or B) clustering
You can flash the bootloader too.
Why anyone bothers with Pi Foundation boards any longer is beyond me, there are so many better SBCs. The rockpro64 launched a full year before the Rpi4, back in 2018, and had PCIe, SATA cards, NICs, and a sweet NAS case to go with it. It could boot from USB drives right away, unlike the Rpi4, it didn’t have power supply issues unlike the Rpi4, and it had eMMC support unlike the Rpi4, among many other benefits like a faster CPU, again having launched a full year prior.
Remember when they said the Rpi3 had 1Gbps speeds. That’s when they started to lose me. Pine64 has had a far better competing board going back to the Rpi3, and they don’t use scummy marketing practices like the Pi Foundation.
Jerboa is also missing what I consider a necessary and basic feature of setting a default comment sort. If you want to see comments sorted by top then you have to make 2 extra clicks in every post you click into, it’s extremely frustrating.
I like Jerboa, and I’ve even donated to them, but it’s unusable in the current state. If you don’t care about changing comment sorting, I guess it’s fine, but I do.
Some dashboards can do this, check out homepage as one example. Glances is a great tool if you want to create your own. Really you should not rely on checking status pages for health but instead set up monitoring and notifications.
I use healthchecks.io and smtp_to_telegram to be instantly notified of SMART failures, storage limits, backup and other script failures, and if docker services go down. As with all selfhosting though, there are plenty of other options for both the monitoring system and the notification system.
I don’t see any evidence that they would target the whales given proper funding. Your argument hinges on that and it has no basis as far as I’ve seen.
Passing the buck in my opinion.
If you want to talk about political parties, each enable each other with their disgusting symbiotic relationship. The Democrats are just as responsible for being ineffectual and allowing the Republicans to enact their policies. They are responsible for losing to Trump in 2016. They are responsible for perpetually playing victim and pandering to voters like you, who are happy to be upset at just one side of the aisle, so they never have to actually be progressive or make any real changes that would upset their donors. It might feel good for you to vote for the lesser evil, but it does nothing; as evidenced by the last two decades. If voting actually changed anything, they would make it illegal.
