It’s always nice to have some motivation from doing things for others. Depending on the service, you can always host for others AND for yourself. It’s 10x as much work but you do get positive feedback (sometimes…)

My own ads, just to make sure they still work (for the 40% who still don’t block ads)
As a professional juggler practised early on to do things with either hand - whether it’s washing dishes or putting a key in the door… just paying attention to how you do things. Now can take juggle 3 balls in either hand
282·5 months agoAs a former Android developer, you can’t just do anything in an android app on a modern smartphone. The system is fighting you for resources the whole time. It makes sense to have something like this running as root on a device that you control.
Not that I’m sold on it, just saying…
Might be a coincidence but MX Linux still supports 32bit x86 CPU’s.
I recently installed MX Linux on an old Dell Inspiron 1300 which inexplicably still runs and it’s pretty snappy, considering.
Then I think the actual answer is there are none. Although PipePipe can access PeerTube? Also BiliBili and NicoNico. BiliBili is possibly larger than YouTube but of course it’s all in Chinese!
I mostly use PipePipe on android, from f-droid store. It’s basically New pipe but more reliable and can also view Chinese and Japanese video platforms
On desktop Freetube can’t be beat
2·6 months agoDigital. I’ve been reading ebooks for years, starting on my flip phone back in the day. The best part to me is being able to seamlessly switch from reading with my eyes to being read to (tts - I’m used to it now and it’s waaaay better than it was).
I do a lot of driving for work so I can get a ton of reading done on the road 😁
I am upvoting this - also moved to Cloudflare from ngrok it’s much simpler to use
The apipocalypse same as everyone else. I do miss my niche communities, and my 4000+ internet points, but as an open source enthusiast (I use arch btw) I’m very much at home here 😁
3·7 months agoYeah looking at you Roblox 😠. Has anyone hacked that anti cheat nonsense yet? Right now I’m mirroring my android phone on my desktop to be able to see what I’m doing (I’m over 40 but I play with my kids in case you wondering)

A friend had the shower drain piped directly to his garden sprinkler at one point. His shower was on the 2nd floor so gravity did the rest.
Probably have a ton of unusual/unique items, being a magician and juggler, but the one that comes to mind is our dedicated BBQ bellows.
This is simply an old re-purposed balloon pump and lives outside next to the fireplace. Best way to get the fire going, portable, cheap… Beats blowing with your mouth/waving newspaper hands down.
13·1 year agoI was about 19, a magician friend told me I was good enough at juggling to do busking but I was too shy. Decided to give it a go anyway and remember shaking so hard while lighting the fire torches I was using. Made R30 ($2) so not a lot but I did it. I remember thinking to myself, “I’ll never have to work again!”
That was over 20 years ago, and since then - with the exception of that stupid pandemic we had recently - I have made a decent living as a circus performer and magician.
I won’t tell you it wasn’t a bumpy ride at first, but that first show was the turning point for me I will never forget.
So AdGuard works on the YouTube website. I haven’t been there for some time - I use 2 other methods to watch YouTube ad-free.
Anyone with knowledge of the matter care to comment? So far my YouTube watching is still ad-free.
I also run pi-hole in front of my WiFi. Nothing gets through. Or will it?
I noticed some podcasts these days have random server injected ads - usually the same ad repeated 2 or 3 times, is this going to be my video stream soon?
