Try Qalculate!.
Agreed. Qalculate is my definitive answer to the software alternative to TI/Casio calculator. If I want more freedom in my calculation I would just use iPython shell
Casio fx-991ES
Automatically puts answers in fractions, but has a button to switch between the two as well. Can also have fractional input. Not sure what model is current though, this one is pretty old.
This is the Linux community.
It’s not a scientific calculator, but I had a TI-Nspire in college. That thing could do fractions with variables in them. It was really nice.
I have a whole Linux machine with a bunch of displays, 16 cores, tons of memory, powerful GPU, and an internet connection. And I still have a TI-84Plus sitting on my desk which I use for all my calculator needs… It’s just easier.
Yeah. Most of the graphing calculators that have a built-in CAS (computer algebra system) can show results that way. Prob what OP is looking for.
I’m way out of date, but I had a TI-89 that had that feature.
Desmos
ages ago I used various Hp (and other) calculator emulators for some tasks I needed to do.
they had more features than any of the calculator programs I had checked out.
But that was many many years ago.
also saw some options mentioned here.

I barely use a calculator, but you could try SageMath if you like the thought of writing you math in Python.
I would try pari/gp, I’m pretty sure it does Dec to frac… Also python has a numeric library I’ve used for that before, although its a bit more complicated than using a calculator like system
