We decided to test whether the car can handle long ranges by going to Austria next week. It’s a large country with numerous places, so I want to ask your help. Have you ever been to there?

EDIT: Thanks the suggestions for everyone, they were really useful!

Innsbruck. Lived there for two years. Beautiful place.

Hallstadt is another amazing place. The “most beautiful city in the world next to a lake”. It is so popular that china created a copy of it haha.

If you travel all the way to the east, the border with Switzerland has a beautiful lake.

I am from Austria so if you have any questions just DM me or ask them here.

What comes to my mind is all the beautiful lakes we have (Faaker See, Wörthersee, Weissensee, etc) so be sure to make a stop at one and go for a swim.

Our capital Vienna is also really worth it but I fear that there is simply too much to see/do there that it alone could fill a whole week.

If you want to see how your car handles mountain roads you can also visit the Großglockner which is the highest mountain in Austria. You can also go for a hike there if that’s something you like.

Salzburg is also really nice and pretty for a day trip.

I even visited Hallstatt a few weeks ago but I sadly have to admit that although it’s really beautiful, I didn’t like the overall experience. There are way too many tourists there and way too few parking spots. And we also got scammed by a couple, minutes after we arrived (they stole our “parking ticket” and we couldn’t leave the parking lot without help). We also heard from residents that there are a lot of pickpockets and many problems with tourists in general. So for me the whole experience was rather stressful and I don’t need to go there any time again soon.

When I was child I thought they are the same places, even though Austria is our neighbour country. 😄

I spent a summer in Bregenz, basically the western tip of Austria. A beautiful little town on the Bodensee (Lake Constance), with a waterfront opera house and a park that runs along the water to just chill with a döner in hand and look out on the lake. Also, there’s a skylift to ride up one of the nearby mountains and get an even better view. Definitely not one of the most exciting places, but if you ever want a chill day, you can’t do much better.

Go to the opera. World class building and performances. The whole inner ring of the city has fabulous buildings and should be on anyone’s to-see list. This is in Wien

Just be aware if you visit Vienna, the Schnitzel Wirt(where even Ed Sheeran ate his Schnitzel) is closed during summer. I see so many tourists every summer confused because it’s closed.

I visited the Schnitzelwirt a few times but stopped going there since a few years. The last time I was there, two japanese tourists were at the table next to us and I overheard the owner making fun of them by insulting them and saying stupid shit to their face. They obviously didn’t speak German and were simply trying to ask for Ketchup in English.

I didn’t leave a tip and never ate there again.

Since I am vegetarian there is no insensitive for me to eat there either, but yea after I heard them say that they think all Friday for Future Protesters(on the World strike) should just go to jail, I pretty skeptical about it.

Highly recommend the ice caves at Eisriesenwelt! We visited Salzburg many years ago and made a day trip out to this cavern system and it was an awesome experience. Also highly recommended stopping and having a pint and lunch at the restaurant between the skylift and the rest of the walk up the mountain. Breathtaking view for a meal.
