This could be a Pixel feature hacked into my custom ROM, but when I swipe up to the app switcher I can select words and images from the app previews and copy them or do whatever else the text menu allows.
For some reason only Apple still seems to ship a dictionary with their phone (Google adds a “search” button but that just launches a browser), but selecting and translating text is just a swipe away on my end. My guess is that the dictionary integration is under some dumb patent.
This is Pixel launcher feature. Exclusive to Pixels but also gettable via custom ROMs. I love this feature but Pixel Launcher doesn’t have good customisation features and hence I have ditched it.
