On the evening of January 24, three sheriff’s deputies in Rankin County, Mississippi, received a group text message from another deputy on the same shift: “Are y’all available for a mission?”
I fucking hope not. I don’t think it’s that people stopped caring, the media stopped giving it airtime. But I’m not part of this marginalized group, I’m not black, so perhaps you have experience with individuals actually caring less and I don’t mean to discredit that! It would depress me a lot if that is reality though and I’d be very disappointed and disillusioned by allies. Trump was responsible for a lot of shit in America but police brutality against the black (and anyone brown tbh) communities has been in headlines since forever and BLM started during Obama didn’t it?
You hope not? I literally see no color anywhere in the Fediverse, just white people. It’s the same on Mastadon too. The racism was always here, Trump just amplified their voice, but now that he’s gone the masks have gone back on
I’m sorry I don’t understand the connection how a new growing website’s diversity or lack of reflects people stopped caring about injustices and brutality against marginalized groups. I do agree racism was always there.
