Hi people that think maybe the headline gives enough info and it isn’t necessary to read the article! read the article!!! It’s so so so much worse than I anticipated.

three sheriff’s deputies in Rankin County, Mississippi, received a group text message from another deputy on the same shift: “Are y’all available for a mission?”

The deputy, Christian Dedmon, informed his colleagues Hunter Elward, Jeffrey Middleton and Daniel Opdyke they were going to a property in Braxton, roughly 30 miles south of Jackson, to handle a complaint received by the office’s chief investigator, Brett McAlpin. The details of what prosecutors say happened that night were shared in a federal charging document.

McAlpin’s White neighbor had told him several Black men were staying at a White woman’s home there and reported seeing suspicious behavior.

    And then…

Over the next two hours, Parker and Jenkins were subjected to grueling violence at the hands of the six White law enforcement officers, culminating in Jenkins being shot in the mouth.

AND THERE IS STILL MORE TO READ! and I skipped other horrible shit like how they were told to behave in front of cameras and “no bad mugshots” I haven’t even finished the article, what I’ve read so far is bad enough I have to send this now. Before other details send me into incoherent

ETA: it’s disgusting. I’m so done. This is worse than I ever imagined and tbh anyone who has commented so far I’m not sure they even read it because it is so so clear these officers were having a great time, with a group chat name and slapping them with dildos and oh it is SO SO SO blatantly racist

The officers then hauled the two men into the living room where all six men spewed racial slurs at them and accused them of taking advantage of the White woman who owned the house. They warned them to stay out of Rankin County and go back to “their side” of the Pearl River

AND IM STILL NOT DONE. I can’t finish this tonight. It is too horrible.

“No bad mugshots,” Dedmon added in another text. The other deputies understood what he meant: They had the green light to use “excessive force” on areas of a person’s body that would not be captured in a mugshot, prosecutors said.

I agree with the person I’m responding to. It’s worse than you think, go read the article

(Nevermind I misread the details of who did/said what. The one thing I did remember correctly is the woman didn’t file a complaint just mentioned it to her neighbor who is the police chief.) I totally missed the the extra context of how it started.

I certainly wouldn’t expect that remark would lead to police breaking into the house in the middle of the night and torturing these men because it’s just so fucking extremely evil (and it was torture, I’d be amazed if they didn’t have PTSD) I HOPE she cares and feels guilt, but this whole story is some Tulsa and Emmett Till levels of brutality and racism.

Conservatives should never be permitted to be in positions of power. It should be illegal for them to possess firearms.

Throughout history, every violent act of racism has come from conservatives. Every single time. Why do we allow them to hold positions of power? They are evil. Period.

I agree. I typically avoid absolute terms, but I enjoy the arguments these statements invite from conservatives. Even when given such an obvious opening, they usually have a tough time arguing against it.

Anger against conservatives is righteous anger and moral. Making verbal arguments is not “fights” as you are presenting it.

Picking fights is literaly the only way political change is possible. Being polite when political opponents are hostile on a philosophical level is counterproductive and self-destructive.

They are making it simple for all of them to be strapped. My daughter who is a liberal was handed a .22 pistol as a gift from her GOP father-in-law when she moved to Florida a few months ago. She was like okay, thank you I guess.

What sort of strategy have you discussed with your daughter about her safety and wellbeing? if you and her have a gun aversion, does she train in martial arts, or are you just taking a leap of faith because the chance of you or her becoming a victim doesn’t seem plausible to you? i want to understand if you and her truly feel that comfortable and safe. if so, hey, i pray that you never suffer a traumatic experience…to me your statement just seems like she was handed a seat belt and was like ‘im not gonna put my seatbelt on, its uncomfortable’ . i say this because i was a raised in a bar and i never saw a woman win a fight with a man hand to hand. Lastly, some of us live in shit holes and can’t leave. but we can make decisions that lead to us going home at night, carrying concealed is one of those methods, and i am very liberal. protection is not GOP exclusive. It’s just tainted by them.

Wearing a gun may give you some protection, but it also brings you a false sense of security and introduces countless new risks while negleting the source of the issue. If you’re actually living somewhere, where it’s “normal” to wear guns it’s a far better idea to just relocate. But then, many folks are just scared and don’t actually gain any increased safety from wearing a gun.

It’s a very real problem. getting a ccw is easier than getting a drivers license. depending on the state, not every place is the same. Living in Rhode Island? yeah having a gun felt passe. Here in Florida. The place is a 39 ring circus with no one orchestrating the show and crime solve rates are laughable at best. additionally. some towns, like mine. our police go home at 6pm…like wtf…our 911 goes to the ‘central’ city after hours which means police arrival times range between 40mins-1:30mins…up north they were sub 10mins tops and 24/7 police shifts. so its not lost on me, i just cant afford to live in a place like that anymore, sadly.

So you admit slavery was ended by progressives. The “Republican” party was the progressive party at the time of emancipation. The parties famously swapped political orientations later during the “Southern Strategy” period, completing their swap in the 1960’s. That should also explain why Republicans were racist in the 1960’s, but were progressive before that. If you ever get confused, just follow the racism. The racist party of any given time period is the conservative one.

Either you know about the party orientation swap and are being deceptive in your language or you didn’t know that and should take your own advice.

Regarding Robert Byrd, he was a notoriously conservative shitbag (which explains his racism) who happened to run as a Democrat for conservative voters. That happens these days as well. See Joe Manchin and Kirsten Sinema as current day examples.

Joe Biden has always been a neo-liberal, which is just a well-dressed conservative with tact and intelligence. He’s become more socially progressive later in his career, but is still a neo-liberal (conservative by all international standards).

Every word uttered by a conservative is deception, manipulation or profoundly incorrect. Every single word. Your commentary is further evidence.of that.

Aaaaand now you are outright lying. You know we can just look up this extremely basic History 101 material, right? I would suggest you follow your own advice and study up, but I suspect reading comprehension is not your strong suit. Ask a friend to read this Wikipedia entry for you. It covers the party switching you claim never happened.

It also describes the “Liberal Republican” party of Lincoln’s time as well as the conservative Democrats, who later became the Dixiecrats of the south. You’ll note the Democrats of Lincoln’s time are absolutely the conservative racist party of the south (you know, the confederates whose statues Republican’s strangely love so much nowdays).

Your deceptive position is so weak that, as another user pointed out, even if it were true (which it’s not), it means nothing because of the absurd levels of racism, bigotry misogyny, homophobia and xenophobia the conservatives of today pride themselves on. It’s truly grotesque and indefensible, yet here you are trying fecklessly to defend it.

It’s hard to know if you really believe your absolute falsehoods or if you are just gullible enough to believe what the other conservatives teach you on stormfront or nambla or wherever conservatives hang out these days.

Either way, you continue to prove that very word uttered by a conservative is a lie, manipulation or profoundly incorrect. So, thank you for being so predictable.

My “poorly written source” is Wikipedia, which in this case, cites multiple reputable, scholarly sources for its data.

I know wickerpedio and book-lernin aint as good as wut uncle daddy lernt ya, but i gess this collij book stuff is all us dum libs got!

Then, you follow that deceptive and inaccurate complaint about the quality of the source with a list of legislative voting results apparently based on the premise that the last party switch (which you originally claimed never happened at all) happened in 1948. What you fail to note is that the party switch famously lasted throughout the 1960’s. To help illustrate that timing (and since you bought up “Storm Thurman”, whoever that is), notorious racist Strom Thurmond’s switch from the Democrats to the Republicans in the 60’s happened because of the passage of the civil rights act. He stated his reason for switching parties was because the Democrats no longer represented the right people.

I’ll type this next part slowly because I know you don’t read fast. A party switch does not take place in a single day or a single year. It takes place over decades. In light of your inaccurate and impossible premise that “the last party switch happened in 1948”, your long list of context-free legislative vote outcomes from the 1960’s is not evidence of anything at all, now is it?

Do you really think humans can just rebuild a “razed” city in a few years, or are you just lying because you are a conservative and can’t help it?

I fucking hope not. I don’t think it’s that people stopped caring, the media stopped giving it airtime. But I’m not part of this marginalized group, I’m not black, so perhaps you have experience with individuals actually caring less and I don’t mean to discredit that! It would depress me a lot if that is reality though and I’d be very disappointed and disillusioned by allies. Trump was responsible for a lot of shit in America but police brutality against the black (and anyone brown tbh) communities has been in headlines since forever and BLM started during Obama didn’t it?
