Reason I’m asking is because I used to have an account here, but I got locked out of my Bitwarden (and thus loss access to the password) so I just decided it’s a good opportunity to try out new instances. I remember hexbear being blocked last time I used dbzer0? Did I remember wrong? If hexbear was blocked, why did you decide to refederate? I thought this instance didn’t like tankies?
I had initially thought they were another instance like exploding heads but I later realized they’re just some leftists trolling. Lemmygrad is unapologetic unironic tankies who would support the worst red fash on the planet.
Otoh, In my impression Hexbear is more lighthearted, and has more varied perspectives, and until now seem to behave in our instance, so I haven’t had a reason to defed.
I generally find it positive to have at least some terminally online leftists available to counter the ancaps and crytpofash crawling everywhere.
Keep in mind, this instance doesn’t rely on rigid and perfectly stated rules on who we defed which allow for loopholes. I don’t have the time for that shite. I unapologetically defed instances which I consider problematic from an anarchist perspective.
The same conditions apply to Hexbears like the other instances. Namely: Fuck around and find out.
Hope this clears things up.
It’s not the political views, it’s the vibe. They dominate conversations, brigade posts constantly, and generally seem to act in bad faith in just about every interaction I’ve ever seen them partake in. Even looking into their posts, about 40% of it is talking about how to make the most noise in the most 4chan-esque, obnoxious way. At what point would you consider that behavior not in line with your threshold for “fuck-arounding?” I’m all for having a reasonable, 2-sided discussion with just about any reasonable differing opinion, even if neither of us changes our views, but that’s not what I’m seeing. I’m seeing megaphones in the form of PNGs that drown out any discussion and generally make everyone else’s experience on Lemmy worse.
I haven’t seen any excessive use of their emojis on our instance tbh
I remember a convo here, recently, that ended with defederation not happening. You can block them from your feed. While they’re officially not tankies, they do behave as if they were feral children.
If it looks like a duck, and smells like a duck, and walks like a duck… Don’t bother with its mallard-manifesto.
They are tankies though, they advocate for violence with things like “we’ll put you against the wall after the revolution” and they support China and Russia’s regimes and atrocities just as much as lemmygrad, and on top of that they take their bullshit into every thread they can on other instances so I have to block them individually, I’m about to switch to connect because I hear you can block instances with a filter there.
Could be possible that you’ve mixed up hexbear and lemmygrad? Lemmygrad is defedded from dbzer0, while hexbear is not.
There are a couple of instances defederated from hexbear if you prefer, like lemmyworld, beehaw, and blahaj to name a few
You’re perhaps confusing Hexbear with Lemmygrad, the other poop-flinging, predominantly Marxist-Leninist instance? Hexbear being open to federation is a pretty recent development on their part; I don’t remember them ever being on the blocklist.
Well, if it happened like you said it did, it coule likely be that dbzer0 is against censorship. Anything that does not happen on their own instance they are not responsible for. lemmy.world has been criticized because of censorship. It’s one of the reasons why people left reddit in the first place. Not allowing communities they do not align with on their own instance is a lot closer to true “fReEdOm Of SpEeCh” (lmao) than outright defederating. Seeing as most users on this instance did likely not even read the code of conduct and probably do not even know what a tanky is, there are probably a bunch of new lemmy users that just chose some large instance, without worrying too much about the technical aspect. Such users do not necessarily benefit from censorship.
To be clear, this is just what I could think of. This is not based on some opinion of mine. I have no idea why they refederated. I also don’t know anything about the hexbear instance.
See here’s the thing: if dbzer0 federated with everyone, that would be very easy to understand. But defederating lemmygrad while federating hexbear??? I mean be consistent, either block both or neither. Blocking only one is very odd to me. It’s like locking the driver’s side of your car, and leaving the passenger side’s door wide open.
I’m not criticizing the policies or anything, I’m just confused, especially if hexbear was already defederated. I mean like… instance owners can do whatever they want, I don’t really care since they own the instance, I’m just confused why federation/defederation policies are so inconsistent.
This post is me trying resolve my confusion. Please do not misunderstand my intent, I respect your right to make your own decisions.
Yeah I absolutely get what you mean. But as I said. What I said is not my opinion, it’s a possible explanation. I don’t really give two craps about politics.
Lemmygrad is explicitly sectarian. Hexbear is not, even if it has a majority of ML users.
There is an anarchism community in Hexbear.
